Great Food Ideas for Caravanning

SNACKS AND FOOD IDEAS WHEN CARAVANNING

There are lots of things to think about when planning your holiday in your caravan. One thing you’ll want to consider is your food. What types of food and snacks are you going to take on your trip?

Here are some great food ideas to keep your belly full, your mood happy and to stay (mostly) healthy while cruising on the road in your caravan.

1. Cheese and crackers

If you have a small fridge in your caravan, you can take some cheese with a packet of crackers or water biscuits.

A triangle of blue, a wheel of brie, or a monster-size block of cheddar will do the trick.  But if cheese isn’t your thing no worries mate.  These days just about anything can go on a cracker.  Like some sardines, hummus, or heck, even last night’s leftover snags make for a tasty snack.  Chuck in a few grapes on the side and you’re good to go.

2. Sandwiches

There’s nothing like a good ole aussie sanga to wrap your laughing gear around while cruising in your van, listening to some tunes; watching the world go by.

You don’t have to get fancy with it either. Slather a few slices with some iconic Vegemite. Throw together a ham, cheese and relish. Make the mouth water with a salad sanga that has lettuce, tomato and cucumber, and a knife swipe of cream cheese. Or go fancy but delicious with the increasingly popular peanut butter and beetroot. Fair dinkum they’re gooood!

3. Finger Snacks

According to Choose Brisbane Australia, the following 6 snacks are rated in the top ten. We suggest you keep them in sealable food bags so they stay fresh longer.

  1. Fairy Bread (white bread with butter and a generous sprinkling of “hundreds and thousands”)
  2. Tim Tams (a proud aussie export and let’s face it, the best biscuit on the planet)
  3. Mini Meat Pies (easy to eat. Dip in some tomato sauce and you’re laughing)
  4. Cheezels. (always a party favourite. Especially with the kids. And who doesn’t like wearing their food as rings?)
  5. Anzac biscuits. (soft, chewy and a yummy sweet coconut-flavour. Not as delectable as the Tim Tam, but still worth a mention.)
  6. Lamingtons (a classic Australian sponge covered in chocolate sauce and dusted with coconut. These DE-LICIOUS cakes are very crumbly though. We suggest eating over a plate or outside the van.

So there you have it. Lots of great food ideas that are popular among Aussies who love to caravan and eat good tucker. 🙂

Happy travelling and eating mates!
