5 Caravanning Essentials

5 MUST-HAVES FOR CARAVANNING

For many folks, caravanning is a lifestyle choice, and for those who live in a caravan full time, life can be pretty sweet. Filled with freedom and adventure, caravan living can be everything you need to experience a fun and adventurous life. It’s also an awesome way to travel and explore this big, beautiful country of ours. However, before you take the plunge and head off on your caravan trip, check you have these 5 must-have items as they will make your caravan experience that much more enjoyable.

1. Dunny Rolls

Yep, that’s right. Good ole toilet rolls. And lots of em. When you caravan full time, or if you’re intending to travel long distances for a holiday, you can’t rely on public conveniences to be around every corner. There may not be a public dunny in sight for several hundred kilometers! So when you need to go you’ve got what you need to feel comfortable. They aren’t a glamorous caravan accessory, but they’re essential for caravan life.

2. Matches and Lighters

Living in a caravan full-time or traveling in a caravan requires a lot of upfront planning. Items you don’t necessarily need at home, you’re going to want when on the road. Boxes of matches and packets of lighters are essential. You don’t want to be without the ability to light a candle in the dead of night, stoke up the barbie, or get that campfire cranking in the middle of nowhere. You’re also going to want to strike quite a few matches when Dad heads into the Dunny with his newspaper tucked under his arm. Ya know those matches are going to come in handy at that point. You know what we’re talking about… 😉

3. A Tent

Unless you intend to go completely off the grid, traveling in a caravan usually involves meeting lots of new people. On the road and when you frequent caravan parks like Karumba Point Sunset Caravan Park. Sometimes you’ll want to invite your new mates back to your caravan for a meal or a bevvie. Most caravans aren’t huge. So having some extra space like a free-standing tent to accommodate your guests can be extremely helpful.

4. Portable WiFi Device

Having a way of staying connected is important. If you caravan full-time or are planning to take a holiday and stay close to caravan parks, caravan clubs, and caravan communities, then staying connected won’t be too difficult. But if you’re planning on heading into the woop woop or the outback, for example, having a portable WiFi device will give you access to the internet, at caravan park hotspots, as well as access to cellular data for unexpected emergencies.

5. Solar Panels

If you’re living in a caravan full-time or planning on taking a caravan holiday then you’ll want to consider solar power as a main source of energy. Especially if you plan to do some off-the-grid camping, then solar is a must. Solar can be used to run your fans, fridges, and power up devices like phones and laptops. Solar will also run all your lighting at night. However, it doesn’t take much for the panels to get a bit dusty. Especially in the outback. So throw a ladder in your caravan too and wipe them down every 3-4 days.

Caravanning can be awesome!

Let’s face it, caravan living and holidaying isn’t for everyone. But for folks who love adventure, spontaneity, saving some dosh, exploring the natural outdoors, and meeting new people caravanning can be a bloody exciting way of life or holiday. Planning and preparation are key to ensuring your time in your van is as amazing and enjoyable as it can be.

Reasons to Holiday in a Caravan

Are you looking for a holiday idea that will let you travel to different places without breaking the bank? A caravan holiday can be the perfect option. If this sounds like the sort of holiday you’re after, keep reading to find out more about caravan holidays and why they could be perfect for you.

Caravan Holidays: 4 Reasons You Should Go On One Right Now

#1 You Will Have Freedom

Freedom is the greatest benefit of traveling in a caravan. With a caravan holiday, you can visit anywhere that interests you and your family. There are caravan parks all across Australia. With a little bit of googling you can easily find a caravan park wherever it is you want to go. Stay for a month in one destination. A few days or a week in another. The choice is up to you.

#2 You Can Spend Time With Your Family

Caravan holidays are great for families. In fact, caravan holidays have been proven to help families bond and deepen their relationship because of the fun times and memories that get created. Spending quality time with your family is one of the best gifts you will ever experience. You can explore new places together. Play fun games on the road. Experience precious moments together and create memories that last a lifetime.

#3 You’ll Be Close To Nature

A caravan holiday will mean that you’re closer to nature than ever before. When you holiday in your caravan, it’s very likely you’ll be passing through beautiful landscapes and natural sites and your caravan park will be surrounded by beautiful gardens and other natural features. Like the Karumba Point Sunset Caravan Park. Whether you like natural landscapes or not, spending time in nature is extremely beneficial. Not only will it give you great relaxation but your health will improve as a result.

#4 You’ll Spend Less Dosh On Your Holiday

Caravan parks aren’t as pricey as hotels and are often located near big cities and towns, which means that you won’t always have to travel far to reach them. Also, caravan holidays are generally cheaper than all other types of holidays, so you’ll be able to afford more extra curricular activities when holidaying in your caravan.

So if you’re looking for a new holiday option that’s cost effective and filled with adventure, why not give caravanning a try. You might discover, as many do, that you absolutely love it. 🙂

Great Food Ideas for Caravanning

SNACKS AND FOOD IDEAS WHEN CARAVANNING

There are lots of things to think about when planning your holiday in your caravan. One thing you’ll want to consider is your food. What types of food and snacks are you going to take on your trip?

Here are some great food ideas to keep your belly full, your mood happy and to stay (mostly) healthy while cruising on the road in your caravan.

1. Cheese and crackers

If you have a small fridge in your caravan, you can take some cheese with a packet of crackers or water biscuits.

A triangle of blue, a wheel of brie, or a monster-size block of cheddar will do the trick.  But if cheese isn’t your thing no worries mate.  These days just about anything can go on a cracker.  Like some sardines, hummus, or heck, even last night’s leftover snags make for a tasty snack.  Chuck in a few grapes on the side and you’re good to go.

2. Sandwiches

There’s nothing like a good ole aussie sanga to wrap your laughing gear around while cruising in your van, listening to some tunes; watching the world go by.

You don’t have to get fancy with it either. Slather a few slices with some iconic Vegemite. Throw together a ham, cheese and relish. Make the mouth water with a salad sanga that has lettuce, tomato and cucumber, and a knife swipe of cream cheese. Or go fancy but delicious with the increasingly popular peanut butter and beetroot. Fair dinkum they’re gooood!

3. Finger Snacks

According to Choose Brisbane Australia, the following 6 snacks are rated in the top ten. We suggest you keep them in sealable food bags so they stay fresh longer.

  1. Fairy Bread (white bread with butter and a generous sprinkling of “hundreds and thousands”)
  2. Tim Tams (a proud aussie export and let’s face it, the best biscuit on the planet)
  3. Mini Meat Pies (easy to eat. Dip in some tomato sauce and you’re laughing)
  4. Cheezels. (always a party favourite. Especially with the kids. And who doesn’t like wearing their food as rings?)
  5. Anzac biscuits. (soft, chewy and a yummy sweet coconut-flavour. Not as delectable as the Tim Tam, but still worth a mention.)
  6. Lamingtons (a classic Australian sponge covered in chocolate sauce and dusted with coconut. These DE-LICIOUS cakes are very crumbly though. We suggest eating over a plate or outside the van.

So there you have it. Lots of great food ideas that are popular among Aussies who love to caravan and eat good tucker. 🙂

Happy travelling and eating mates!
